What were the changes in behaviour during the pandemic?
The meal benefit, which once accounted for more than 90% of our total, has now fallen to just one-third of benefit spend. This indicates greater diversity in employees' spending needs.
Most of this was for food, indicating a change in habits regarding eating out and while working. This type of benefit increased its share tenfold and now represents a little over 30% of the expenses.
Another highlight is education, health and welfare, which together already account for almost 10% of total spending in the pandemic period.

The new behavioural profile
Before the pandemic, we had a single profile, of "Restaurant" spend, which represented just over 80% of our base.
Post-pandemic, we have already identified six distinct spending profiles that represent only 50% of our base. The other half has spending behaviours that blend to different degrees these other six profiles.
This shows that people are increasingly having different priorities and spending needs from one another, which reinforces the need to offer flexible employee benefits. Believing that they can all fit into just one profile is illusory and will not satisfy them.
