Data security: 5 tips to keep your company safe

Is your company guaranteeing data security for employees and customers? Check out this article and find out!

Companies may have to deal with a high volume of data every day. Have you ever stopped to think about what is an organisation's most precious asset these days? It is information. So knowing how to ensure data security within any working environment is paramount.

Those who follow the news on a daily basis know very well that information leaks and hacker attacks are extremely frequent, but how to avoid falling into this type of situation? Alymente has prepared some practical tips for you to always be safe. Check below and apply them!

Step by step to ensure data security

Before you can access our guidelines for implementing data security in your company, you first need to understand what information security is and what its pillars are.

When we talk about the subject, three different and complementary elements should be highlighted:

  • confidentiality: ensuring that access is restricted to those who need to have the information at hand;
  • integrity: when there is no security, data can be altered and modified (either by hackers or by the employees themselves);
  • availability: all information must be available 24 hours a day for those who really need to access it.

All the safety tips we are going to give you below take as their principle the three elements presented above. Take a look:

1. keep your systems up to date

It is very common to find companies that, over the years, do not guarantee the updating of the most diverse systems they use, and this is a serious security breach.

The more obsolete your software is, the more chances you have of being hacked by someone malicious, since updates serve exactly to decrease the vulnerabilities of a system.

2. Have a good password policy

Your employees, regardless of area, may have access to a lot of important information. However, there is no point in having a great system of security methods if there is no guidance in relation to the passwords that should be used in the tools within the company.

The password is the first barrier when it comes to a hacker invasion, and if it is not secure or does not have periodic updates, you are at risk.

3. Armazene seus dados na nuvem </h3>

Working with data storage in the cloud is the most modern way to ensure the security of information in your organisation. Paper documents should always be scanned and any kind of sensitive or important document should be in the cloud.

The most interesting thing is that this type of tool has a low cost and its maintenance is simple to do. The system ensures that the information will be available to those who need it, all the time, from anywhere and on any device that uses the internet.

4. Ensure your legal protection

The General Law of Data Protection (LGPD) is about to come into force and it is essential that organizations adapt to the new rules to stay within the law. The rules were created to control the use of information from individuals or companies and have implications for all market segments.

You need to adapt so that the information you collect on your website is only used with the consent of the person who offered it.

5. Restrict use of removable media

Although the use of pen drives and external hard drives is quite common nowadays, they are a vulnerability for any computer. What happens is that these devices are small and easy to be acquired and used, but also easy to be stolen, stolen or lost by the employees themselves.

You can disable use for some machines or, for those that need to use them, restrict auto-starting and restrict it to only those computers where use is really necessary.

It is common that companies are not 100% protected against possible threats, especially micro and small organisations. But with some simple data security tips you can decrease the chances of having some information leakage or hacker attack!
