The pandemic caused by the new coronavirus forced the market to rethink the way it had been working until that moment. The home office, which was already a trend, became almost unanimous among companies, a characteristic of what was called the "new normal".
This "new normal" refers to the practices that became part of our routine after the start of the pandemic. But what will be maintained even after this period? Which habits will remain part of our daily routine? One of the great discussions on the subject concerns remote work.
Remote working as part of the "new normal
It was mid-March 2020 that covid-19 transformed the way we live and many companies adopted home office as a new working model, as a way to preserve the health of their employees.
According to a survey conducted by the Fundação Instituto de Administração (FIA), 94% of the companies consulted approved of remote work. On the other hand, only 30% said they would maintain their home office policy after the end of the pandemic.
There are a number of pros and cons to both models, and to decide which is best for your company and your employees, it is essential to weigh both sides very carefully.
On one side we have the remote model, already consolidated in our "new normal". With it, it is possible to hire people anywhere in the world, without the need to bear the costs of a physical location. One of the great dissatisfactions of employees is in relation to working hours. The same FIA survey found that 45.8% of respondents had increased workload with the beginning of quarantine.
On the other hand, working allocated allows greater integration in the company, ease of communication, besides having internet and equipment. The FIA survey pointed out that only 10% of the companies funded their employees during the pandemic.
The hybrid model as a solution
Considering the pros and cons of both sides, it is very clear that the ideal model is one that mixes both options. At a first moment, for example, it may seem that the totally remote work cuts many expenses. However, it is necessary to disburse a good amount of money to adjust 100%.
The working model is exactly that, and it is the one that will be maintained even after the end of the "new normal". It mixes the possibility of home office with the existence of a physical place to be attended too.
To understand the best way to work in your company you need to understand what your needs are. The 3x2 model, in which three days a week the employee works from home and two days in the office, and vice-versa is one of them. Another possibility is to have a physical space only for meetings and occasional appointments.
Regardless of your choice, the fact is that we were forced to change our reality from one to the other and the home office proved to be very efficient. But just as we adapted to life in isolation, we will have to adapt when it ends.
